Cystic Ovary Picture

Generally, when a woman has recurring or many ovarian cysts, this is called polycystic ovarian syndrome, or PCOS. A cystic ovary usually refers to cystic ovarian disease, which affects cows, not people.  This is actually a pig ovary with many mature follicles, or cysts.  It’s kind of amazing the similarities between people and animals.  It’s very possible that the cattle get cystic ovarian disease from the hormones they receive to force them to produce milk.  It makes you wonder if ovarian cysts in women may have a similar cause…

This picture comes from the medical dictionary.  They got it from Sack W, Wensing CJG, Dyce KM, Textbook of Veterinary Anatomy, Saunders, 2002.

The best advice I can give you is to check out this book – A Patient’s Guide to PCOS: Understanding–and Reversing–Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

I read it and it was really good advice from a real doctor on how to manage PCOS – mainly through controlling your diet and blood sugar levels. It seems to have helped a lot of women and it may be able to help you as well.
